America knows him as a former NFL player, actor and Christian family man but Terry Crews, 47, recently revealed that he once had a porn addiction so bad, it almost destroyed his marriage.
“The subject is dirty little secret and you know for years, years, my dirty little secret was that I was addicted to pornography, for years,” revealed Crews in a just over 5-minute video he posted on social media about his addiction.
Referring to pornography as a “worldwide problem” Crews said “it really messed up my life in a lot of ways.”
Describing how bad his addiction was he said “if day turns into night and you’re still watching, you’ve probably got a problem and that was me.”
“It affected everything. I didn’t tell my friends. I didn’t tell my wife. Nobody knew. The Internet allowed that little secret to just stay and grow.”
It wasn’t until his wife, who is also a Christian minister, discovered his habit and threatened to leave that Crews decided to change.
“My wife was like, ‘I don’t know you anymore. I’m out of here,’” he said.
“And that changed me,” he explained, “because I realized this thing is a major, major problem.”
He said he got professional help to get over his addiction but said he didn’t really do it to get his wife back.
“And you know what? I did not get help so I could get my wife back. I just wanna tell you that. I got help because I needed it,” he said.
He said he is speaking out against pornography because it is destructive.
“My problem with pornography is that it changes the way you think about people. People become objects. People become body parts. And things to be used, rather than people to be loved. You start to change the way you see people. You start to use people,” he said.
Now that he is free of his addiction, Crew says he is now trying to help others overcome the addiction too.
“I’ve been free of this thing going on six, seven years now, but now it’s become my battle to help other people do the same thing,” he said.
